What is DPT Pay?
Holding USDT or USDC is easy. Spending it is where most people get stuck — you sell on an exchange, wait for a bank transfer, pay a spread, and lose two days.
DPT Pay removes that loop. It is a stablecoin Visa card operated by DPT (HK) Limited, a Hong Kong company. You deposit USDC or USDT, it converts to a USD spending balance automatically, and you spend at any Visa-accepting merchant — online, in store, or through Apple Pay and Google Pay.
The company runs three products on the same rails:
| Product | Who it's for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| DPT Card | Individuals spending stablecoins | The main app |
| DPT Payout | Treasuries sending money out | The main app |
| DPT Acquiring | Merchants accepting stablecoins | merchant.dpt.xyz |
One thing to be clear about up front: DPT is not a bank. It is a financial technology platform. Your funds are not held in a deposit account with government insurance, and availability depends entirely on where you live.
Is DPT Pay legit and safe?
This is the most-searched question about any crypto card, and it deserves a real answer rather than a marketing one.
What checks out
- Licensed entity. DPT (HK) Limited holds Hong Kong TCSP licence number TC010834 under AMLO Cap. 615.
- Third-party custody. Assets are held by BitGo, a qualified custodian, rather than by DPT itself. Custodied assets carry insurance up to $250 million.
- PCI DSS compliant service provider, which is the card-industry standard for handling card data.
- Real app store presence on both the App Store and Google Play, published by DPT (HK) LIMITED.
- Public fee schedule at dpt.xyz/faq/card-fees-limits, viewable without signing up. This matters more than it sounds, plenty of crypto cards hide fees behind registration.
- Account security via passkeys, authenticator app 2FA, biometrics, and PIN.
What you should weigh honestly
- It is a young company, the brand launched in 2025. It does not have a decade of track record.
- Not a bank, no deposit insurance. The $250M figure is custody insurance held by BitGo, which is not the same thing as government deposit protection on your balance.
- Stablecoin risk is real. If USDC or USDT ever depegs, your spending balance is affected. This is a risk of the asset, not of DPT.
- Availability can change. Regulators shift, and card programmes get restricted at short notice.
None of this makes DPT unusually risky for its category. But treat it as a spending tool you top up as needed, not as a savings account.
DPT card fees in full
Here is the complete published fee schedule. This is the section most reviews get wrong or leave vague.
One-time costs
| Item | Cost | With code CARDNODE |
|---|---|---|
| Virtual card issuance | $10.00 | $8.00 |
| Physical card issuance | $50.00 | $40.00 |
| Physical card replacement | $10.00 | — |
| Deposit fee (crypto) | Free | — |
When you activate either card you receive a $5 spending credit, usable anywhere the card works. It is non-withdrawable, you can spend it, you cannot cash it out. New users also get a $5 welcome bonus on signup.
Do the arithmetic on the virtual card: $10 issuance, minus 20% with the code, minus a $5 spending credit on activation, leaves a real net cost of roughly $3.
Transaction costs
| Transaction type | Fee |
|---|---|
| USD transaction | Free |
| Foreign currency (FX) | 0% – 2% |
| ATM withdrawal | 2% of amount, plus 0% – 1.75% FX surcharge where applicable, plus any ATM operator fee |
| Small transaction (under $25) | Free for a limited time; $0.10 after the promotion ends |
| Declined transaction | First 3 per month free, then $0.50 each |
What DPT does not charge
- No monthly maintenance fee
- No annual fee
- No subscription fee
- No inactivity fee, your balance stays yours if you don't touch the card for months
- No interest, because it is a prepaid debit product, not credit
The honest read: DPT is cheap for USD online spending and mid-priced for travel. The ATM fee is where it stings, 2% plus a possible FX surcharge plus the machine's own fee means cash withdrawal is the worst way to use this card. Some competitors waive ATM fees up to a monthly cap. If you pull cash frequently, price that in.
Declined-transaction fees are also worth watching. Three free declines a month sounds generous until you realise an insufficient-balance decline counts, and it is easy to trip that with a card whose balance you top up manually.
DPT card limits
| Limit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Balance limit | Unlimited |
| Spending limit per transaction | Unlimited |
| Daily spending limit | Unlimited |
| ATM withdrawals per day | 3 |
| ATM cap per transaction | $250 |
| ATM cap per day | $750 |
Unlimited spending limits are unusual and genuinely useful if you're paying for flights, rent, or business expenses. The ATM ceiling is the real constraint: $750 a day maximum, across three withdrawals.
Note that declined ATM attempts can count toward your daily frequency, so a failed withdrawal is not free in every sense.
Oxygen vs Obsidian: which card?
DPT runs two tiers.
| Feature | Oxygen | Obsidian |
|---|---|---|
| Network tier | Visa Platinum | Visa Infinite |
| Access | Open application | Invite-only |
| Travel accident insurance | Up to $500,000 | Up to $1.5 million |
| Delay, baggage, cancellation cover | Yes | Yes |
| Digital issuance | Instant | Instant |
| Prize draws | Yes | Yes |
| Upgrade path | Automatic to Obsidian for qualifying top spenders | — |
Practical advice: apply for Oxygen. Obsidian is not something you choose, it is offered to high-volume spenders, and there is no application queue to join. If you see only one card in the app, that is expected behaviour, not an error.
Also note the insurance figures are travel accident coverage, which is a specific and narrow product. It is not trip insurance, not medical coverage abroad, and not a substitute for either. Read the certificate before relying on it.
Which countries support DPT?
DPT advertises 150+ countries, and that number is accurate for where the card is accepted. Where you can open an account and be issued a card is a shorter list.
Countries where DPT cards cannot be issued
If you reside in or are registered in any of these, you cannot get a DPT card:
Belarus, China (Mainland), Cuba, India, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Myanmar, Nepal, Nicaragua, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, Vietnam
The United States
US citizens are not eligible. DPT cards are intended for users outside the US. USD works as a currency worldwide for pay-in and pay-out, but account registration and card issuance are closed to US-based users.
Countries where the card cannot be used for spending
Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Russia, Syria, Ukraine, Venezuela
Everywhere else
DPT supports pay-in, pay-out, or both across a wide list including the UK, EU, Australia, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Singapore, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Peru, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, South Korea, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Morocco, Egypt, Georgia, and most of Europe. Payouts to local bank accounts are available in 100+ countries and currencies.
Some countries are pay-out only, meaning you can send funds to a local bank account but cannot fund your DPT account through a local fiat rail. Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Taiwan, and several African markets fall into this group, you fund those accounts with stablecoins on-chain instead, which is the normal route for this card anyway.
What you cannot buy
DPT blocks certain merchant categories outright. The most relevant one for this audience: you cannot use a DPT card to purchase or trade cryptocurrency. Others include drug-related purchases, dark web marketplaces, unlicensed online pharmacies, firearms and ammunition, escort services, unregulated lending, and data brokerage.
Supported coins and networks
DPT accepts USDC and USDT on six chains:
| Network | Minimum deposit | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Ethereum | 1 USDC / 1 USDT | Highest gas cost |
| Polygon | 1 USDC / 1 USDT | Cheap, fast |
| Base | 1 USDC / 1 USDT | Cheap, fast |
| BSC | 1 USDC / 1 USDT | Cheap, fast |
| Solana | 1 USDC / 1 USDT | Cheapest, fastest |
| Tron (TRC-20) | 10 USDT | Higher minimum |
Deposits typically land in about one minute. Deposit fees on DPT's side are free, you only pay the network's own gas.
Which network should you use? Solana, Base, or Polygon if your sending wallet supports them, because the gas cost is negligible. Tron is popular for USDT but carries a 10 USDT minimum here, so avoid it for small top-ups. Ethereum works but you will pay meaningfully more in gas than the deposit is worth for small amounts.
No crypto? You can buy in-app
If you don't already hold stablecoins, DPT supports fiat-to-crypto purchases directly in the app under Homepage → Deposit → Buy Crypto, using credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and regional rails like SEPA, ACH, and PIX.
Direct fiat deposits via virtual bank accounts, holding a fiat balance through SEPA, SWIFT, or ACH, are listed as in development, with no confirmed launch date.
How to apply, step by step
Step 1: Confirm you're eligible
Check the prohibited list above before you spend any time on this. Visa acceptance in your country does not mean DPT onboarding is open in your country. This is the single most common reason applications fail.
Step 2: Download the official app
Go to dpt.xyz/download, or start from the tracked link below so your referral and discount register correctly:
Never install a crypto app from a link sent by an unknown account, a Telegram DM, or a comment reply. Fake wallet apps are the single most common way people lose funds in this category.
Step 3: Create your account
Tap Create Account and follow the prompts. Enter the referral code if the app asks: CARDNODE
New accounts receive a $5 welcome bonus.
Security: no legitimate creator, affiliate, or admin will ever ask for your password or one-time code. Anyone who does is stealing your account. Turn on 2FA before you deposit anything.
Step 4: Complete KYC
Submit accurate identity documents. DPT says verification typically completes in under two minutes, though that assumes a clean submission, clear photos, details matching your ID exactly, no expired documents.
Approval is not guaranteed. DPT can request more documentation or decline based on its compliance requirements.
Step 5: Deposit USDC or USDT
Open the deposit section, choose your asset, then choose the network. Check three things before you confirm: asset, network, address.
You only need enough to cover the card fee, $10 for virtual, or $8 with the promo code. There is no requirement to fund the card heavily to apply.
Critical: sending on the wrong network can delay or permanently lose your funds. Recovery is sometimes possible but never guaranteed. Send a $1 test transaction first if you are unsure, the fee is trivial compared with losing the lot.
Also note: your deposit is not the card fee. The fee is charged separately at checkout. Depositing $10 does not mean the card is paid for.
Step 6: Apply for the card
Open Cards, select the card available to you (almost certainly Oxygen), and review the fee, benefits, and terms shown in the app.
Step 7: Apply the promo code — before you pay
See the next section. This is the step people miss, and it cannot be reversed after payment.
Step 8: Activate and spend
After approval, activate the digital card, add it to Apple Pay or Google Pay, and make a small first purchase to confirm everything works. Your $5 activation credit is available immediately.
How to use the promo code for 20% off
On the checkout screen, before completing payment:
- Open the card page in the app and select your card.
- Find the Promo code field on the checkout page.
- Enter
CARDNODEexactly, no spaces, no extra characters. - Tap Apply.
- Confirm the discount appears in the price summary.
- Review the new total, then pay.
Rules worth knowing
- Only one promo code per card transaction. You cannot stack codes.
- The discount applies to the card issuance fee only. Not to deposits, not to future transactions, not to FX or ATM fees.
DeFi yield on your balance
This is a differentiator worth understanding, and also worth being cautious about.
DPT offers an opt-in yield feature that routes your stablecoin balance into the Gauntlet Alpha Vault, which allocates across Aave and Morpho. The balance stays available for card spending while it earns.
What this means practically: your idle spending money earns something instead of nothing. For a digital nomad holding a float between countries, that is genuinely useful.
What to understand before opting in: this is DeFi, not a savings account. Yields fluctuate and are not guaranteed. Smart contract risk is real — Aave and Morpho are among the most battle-tested protocols in the space, but "most battle-tested" is not "risk-free." Opting in is a choice to take protocol risk in exchange for yield. Leave it off if that trade isn't one you want.
Who DPT is and isn't for
A good fit if you:
- Hold USDC or USDT and want to spend it without selling on an exchange
- Live outside the US and outside the prohibited list
- Spend mostly online in USD, where the card costs you nothing per transaction
- Travel or work remotely and want a card that isn't tied to one country's banking system
- Want a virtual card fast, issuance is instant after approval
- Get paid in stablecoins as a freelancer or contractor
A poor fit if you:
- Are a US citizen or resident, you cannot sign up
- Live in India, Turkey, Vietnam, Nepal, Israel, or another prohibited jurisdiction
- Withdraw cash frequently, where the 2% ATM fee plus surcharges adds up fast
- Want deposit insurance and bank-grade guarantees on your balance
- Need to buy crypto with the card — that category is blocked
- Are uncomfortable holding value in stablecoins at all
